Chris Marshall

Chris Marshall, born Adrian Christopher Marshall, was born and raised in St. Catherine Parish, Jamaica. He grew up surrounded by music, from jamming at home with his family after dinner to growing up and exploring the country’s many dancehalls. Sundays were a musical day in his household, where the family would come together and listen and dance to music on the radio.

Chris found himself influenced by Jamaica’s most recognizable artists like Richie Spice, Freddie McGregor, and Beres Hammond. His journey as a composer started when he bought his own computer and began experimenting with beat making. As early as high school, Chris could be found in different studios mastering his craft and bringing the sounds of the island to life with his music. The quiet and laid back artist found his voice in making music. Chris Marshall finally achieved his first success with the track that would eventually go on to become one of the best chart-toppers of 2006. Sean Paul’s “Temperature” gave Chris the credibility needed to elevate his career as a hit-maker for the modern dancehall sound that was taking over the airwaves. The song not only topped the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, but also won the 2007 Grammy Award for Dance Song of the Year. Over a decade later, Chris still puts forth the same amount of work and effort into everything he does. His goal is to continue creating music that is true to the message from his humble beginnings and the passion behind dancehall music that is heard around the world. He encourages others interested in following his footsteps to continue doing what they love and never give it up, especially if it’s music.

In 2019, Chris did a collaboration with international artist ANITTA on “Tu y Yo” which has accumulated 18 million views on YouTube and was featured on her 2019 album “Kisses.” In 2020, Chris released his first EP under Rich Music titled “Marshall Law”. His first single “iFear” featuring label mate Justin Quiles and Nigerian superstar Kizz Daniels reached 225k views on YouTube. Chris Marshall’s latest album ”Audio Therapy” was released in September of 2021 and includes his singles ”Push Back” y ”Bounce Wid It”, through Rich Music Inc.

Born in Hong-Kong to a Brazilian father and a German mother, I was raised in Switzerland, Brazil and the USA, and I am deeply focused in what brings different People and Creative Visions together. As is often the case in the Music I help bring into the world, I myself integrate many cultures and influences.

Basic classical piano training at age 14, followed by a few years of playing and touring in small bands led me finally to a more focused learning process at Berklee College of Music, majoring in Music Production and Engineering. Followed by opportunities to further develop my skills in the state-of-the-art New York studio scene of the late 90’s, where I met and learned from the very top talents in the industry such as Toni Maserati, Tom and Chris Lord-Alge, Frank Filipetti, and Michael Brauer, and started a career as a free-lance audio engineer. The Big Apple being the cosmopolitan hub that it is, it allowed me to establish connections with creators from all corners of the US, Latin America, Europe and Asia. That really defined my open-to-all-options style, which offers creators a very broad palette to expand their Music explorations while still feeling grounded.

In 2000 I moved to Rio de Janeiro, invited by my chosen brother and extraordinary human being and producer Tom Capone, to create Estudio Toca do Bandido, a recording studio that became a legendary production hub for the highest level of Brazilian Music, reaching later world-wide recognition (in 2015 Converse Rubber Tracks selected Toca do Bandido as one of 12 iconic studios of the world, which also included Abbey Road-London and Tuff Gong-Jamaica). The decade was spent in a whirlwind of magical projects with iconic artists, generating not only an unexpected level of recognition (10 of the 13 Latin Grammy awards I was honored with are form that era), but also the opportunities to help artists explore new creative avenues, with new sounds, technologies and formats.

Since 2014 I set a new base in the US, first in NY again, and then in Miami, where I connected at a much deeper level with the Music being made all over Latin America. In Miami my lifelong goal of bringing people and cultures together was able to evolve into much more focused actions. Associations with top Latin artists (Bacilos, Jorge Celedon, Luis Enrique) and influencial institutions (Universal Music, Toca Produções, Alacran Studios), and a return in 2022 to my Rio de Janeiro “roots” are making possible more bridge crossings than ever. Also, my talents developped into many areas beyond the music studio, into movies, music series, multi-media art, and it is invigorating to see the world uniting and creating in all different ways.
